Cape Radio Flyers proudly stands as the oldest Radio Control (R/C) club in the Cape and holds the distinction of being the second oldest in the entire country, with a rich history spanning six decades. For the past 60 years, we have been dedicated to serving the needs of Radio Control enthusiasts, fostering a vibrant community passionate about aviation in both its grand and miniature forms.
During our initial 50 years, our presence was prominent at the Rietvlei Nature Reserve, nestled between Milnerton and Table View. Although equipped with an asphalt runway, our facilities were relatively modest. In 2014, a significant transition occurred as we moved to the secluded yet dynamic “Vaatjie Farm” along the old Atlantis road (R304). Thanks to the concerted efforts and hard work of our committee at the time, this relocation marked a pivotal moment in our history, elevating our club facilities to one of the finest in the Cape.
At our current location, we take pride in offering an array of amenities to enhance the flying experience for our members. This includes two hard surface runways strategically positioned to face prevailing winds, well-designed taxiways, and a covered pit area. Our clubhouse stands as a focal point, featuring indoor and outdoor braai areas, a bar for socializing, and a comfortable lounge space. The clubhouse also houses a book rack stocked with over 500 R/C magazines spanning various eras, providing a valuable resource for enthusiasts. Additionally, separate bathroom facilities for both ladies and gents, complete with showers, cater to the diverse needs of our community.
We extend a warm invitation to all aviation enthusiasts, whether their interest lies in large or small aircraft, to connect with us. Whether through online platforms or, preferably, by paying a visit to the club, we encourage individuals to explore the world of Cape Radio Flyers. For those interested in a physical visit, a simple search for “Cape Radio Flyers RC Field” on Google Maps will lead you directly to our location.
